Bike trip to Rajmachi and Lonavala

Every new bike riders living in Mumbai Thane craze to ride on Mumbai-Lonavala route. Same was with me. Finally, the day arrived when I was riding in the ghats. Let’s have some flashback. A week before I set out with my friend to Lonavala. We started late and left Mumbai around 12 PM in the noon. ‘Waze’ Android GPS application, suggested a shorter route to Rajmachi from JVLR->Kanjurmarg->Vashi bridge->Kalamboli->Panvel->Khandala->Lonavala. It didn’t click us, that the application was showing route for 4 wheelers and we were on a motorcycle until we were CAUGHT. Destiny had planned us to stop reaching Rajmachi. First, the fuel indicator fooled us. The tank was almost empty just before the turn towards Vashi bridge. If I hadn’t filled my tank there was no petrol pump next 7 km. Second, faced enormous traffic after Vashi bridge which burned our more than 2 hours. And finally, we entered Mumbai-Pune Expressway and drove for 8 Km before getting caught by Traffic police since two-wheelers are not allowed on Expressway. Reached Panvel around 4 PM. There was no …

Bike trip to Matheran hill staion mumbai

Solo bike trip to Matheran hill station

Matheran was not in my mind the night before the bike ride. I was thinking to take out my bike and simply stroll around. The place wasn’t fixed but I was planning to have some hilly ride. Finally decided to ride to Matheran from Mumbai. Matheran is a popular hill station around 100 KM from Mumbai. It is a popular weekend getaway for Mumbai folks. Technically this was going to be my first solo bike trip. Although the total distance was not more than 250 km to and fro but for a newbie it was nothing more than an achievement. Woke up at 6 AM took the camera, bike papers and a bottle of glucose. Since fuel was in reserve I was worrying whether pumps would be open in the morning luckily it was. Let the ride begin Since the ride was 100 KM one way I was not worried about the routes. Just noted some intermediate spots. First one hour was nice, cool and fast. Crossed Thane via Ghodbunder and reached Mumbra. Post Mumbra the state highway passes through …

Pelhar Dam

Bike ride to Pelhar Dam

A bikers soul never rest in peace. It keeps on looking for new paths and new destinations. Distance doesn’t matter. Hidden, unknown and untouched Pelhar dam is one such place near Mumbai. How did I come to know about Pelhar dam I was wandering on Google Maps in search of the river, lakes, dam anything closer to Mumbai or Thane. Scrolled down and spotted a tiny water body like symbol close to Virar. What then? When it’s fixed, it’s fixed  🙂 It doesn’t matter if the day is a hot summer afternoon and there is a good probability of stumbling a dried dam reservoir. No worries. I just wanted the throttle to move as it will move my soul. Patience and Biker Left my home around 11:30 AM. As expected it was hot but as long as the wheels are moving it is ok. Little did I know that the lined trucks were waiting right at our gates. 12 PM and huge traffic made the situation irritating. But this is where a biker learns what …

Bhandardara travel blog

Bhandardara – A monsoon retreat

Wandering is in the instinct of human being. Although we love to settle at one place, our inner being keeps pricking us to go out, roam, see something new. When a similar feeling flows in more than one soul a group is formed. This time, we were a group of six and destination was Bhandardara. A beautiful monsoon retreat. Extremely pleasant to eyes are the lush green hills, numbers of gently flowing streams. Shallow rivers asking you to remove your sandals and drop your feet to  feel the running water. Rural folks busy in their daily chores, some busy with their Bullocks in a small patch of land on the corner of a hill, some herding cows with hand built bamboo raincoat on their head. It was Friday night we decided to leave Mumbai and catch the Igatpuri bound train. All of us assembled at Dadar railway station. The train was late and was a bit crowded. Mumbai to Igatpuri does not take more than 3 Hours (~180 Kms). We caught the train at 12 …

Trip to Matheran by Budgetyatri

Matheran – I started my travel journey from here

Matheran was the first trip when we stepped out of the doors with a bit of nervousness and lots of excitement. It was natural though. When we are not in our comfort zone, certainly it makes us act over-cautious. It was way back in 2008, Matheran was not more than 100 kilometers from Bhayandar where we live. Technically, there wasn’t planning needed, still, I was ready with my Pen and paper. Planning the journey details You can address me a detailed planner and respecting this, I started preparation two weeks before. I along with Rajkumar, Sachin and Ravikant began working on the route, allotted time to each destination, fixed targets and so on.  But what fun it is when everything goes as per the plan 🙂 I have a dinosaur in my group so the next thing was to make the arrangement of food for him. Packed biscuits, wafers, farsan, chocolates, Dabur Glucose, etc. One of us begged his girlfriend for Digicam. A digital camera was nothing less than fantasy for us. The excitement was …
