Trek to Devariya tal Uttarakhand in winter

Deoria Tal trek – Bike trip to Uttarakhand – 5

What an awesome day I had yesterday, bike ride to Auli Ski Resort and getting the basic lessons of Skiing was great. Today’s plan included the trek to Deoria Tal. Deoria Tal has its reference in Mahabharat. It’s the same lake where 4 of the Pandavas dies by drinking lake water without answering to the Yaksha’s questions. They were brought to life only when Yudhistir answers all of his questions. I  like that part, especially the question and answer between Yudhistir and Dharmraj. Gopeshwar to Ukhimath via Rudraprayag: In the above map, the route marked in black is a direct route between Gopeshwar and Ukhimath. Chopta, Chandrashila, and Deoria Tal lies between this route. However, the road was closed due to heavy snowfall. Direct road i.e. via Chopta is 60 km and the longer one via Rudraprayag was 130 km. I had no options but to take the longer route. Prepared for the longer route followed by trek after that, I left the place around 8 AM. Reached Ukhimath around 12:30 PM. Construction work and …

vasota fort camping in bamnoli satara

Vasota Fort Trek and Camping in Bamnoli village

Vasota Fort is one of the most isolated forts in the district of Satara of Maharashtra state and Vasota Fort trek is one of the difficult treks. Trekking this fort fills the bucket list of thousands of trekkers. It was the month of July. Rains had started in Mumbai. And rains means waterfalls, green mountain slopes, trekking, camping. This time, it was a little far from Mumbai where I live.Vasota or Vyaghragad! The name seemed strange to me, I had never heard it before. As per the trekking clubs, it is one of the most adventurous jungle treks in Maharashtra. Vasota fort is not easily accessible and government authority keeps it close for 3 months of monsoon. How to reach Vasota: For Mumbai folks: – There are two options First, they can catch a Satara bound train from Dadar railway station. Second, they can get a bus from Elphinstone bus depot in the west, right under the Flyover. Private buses operate regularly for Satara. Private bus operator charges around 250-300 per person. State Transport buses are …

Bhandardara travel blog

Bhandardara – A monsoon retreat

Wandering is in the instinct of human being. Although we love to settle at one place, our inner being keeps pricking us to go out, roam, see something new. When a similar feeling flows in more than one soul a group is formed. This time, we were a group of six and destination was Bhandardara. A beautiful monsoon retreat. Extremely pleasant to eyes are the lush green hills, numbers of gently flowing streams. Shallow rivers asking you to remove your sandals and drop your feet to  feel the running water. Rural folks busy in their daily chores, some busy with their Bullocks in a small patch of land on the corner of a hill, some herding cows with hand built bamboo raincoat on their head. It was Friday night we decided to leave Mumbai and catch the Igatpuri bound train. All of us assembled at Dadar railway station. The train was late and was a bit crowded. Mumbai to Igatpuri does not take more than 3 Hours (~180 Kms). We caught the train at 12 …

Trip to Matheran by Budgetyatri

Matheran – I started my travel journey from here

Matheran was the first trip when we stepped out of the doors with a bit of nervousness and lots of excitement. It was natural though. When we are not in our comfort zone, certainly it makes us act over-cautious. It was way back in 2008, Matheran was not more than 100 kilometers from Bhayandar where we live. Technically, there wasn’t planning needed, still, I was ready with my Pen and paper. Planning the journey details You can address me a detailed planner and respecting this, I started preparation two weeks before. I along with Rajkumar, Sachin and Ravikant began working on the route, allotted time to each destination, fixed targets and so on.  But what fun it is when everything goes as per the plan 🙂 I have a dinosaur in my group so the next thing was to make the arrangement of food for him. Packed biscuits, wafers, farsan, chocolates, Dabur Glucose, etc. One of us begged his girlfriend for Digicam. A digital camera was nothing less than fantasy for us. The excitement was …
